1967 Ford Mustang ERA (LHD)

‘You’d better slow your Mustang down,’ a memorable verse that rings out sung by Wilson Pickett about a girl living the wildlife in her brand new Ford Mustang in his song of 64’ called ‘Mustang Sally.’ The big hit is still high on playlists today, just as the Mustang is still a hit and a beloved classic car around the world 62 years later.

From birth, the Mustang was competition bred. Legend Dan Gurney raced the prototype at a support race for the US GP at Watkins Glen before it acted as pace car on the 1964 Indy 500.It was first and second in class on the gruelling Tour de France that same year and went on to great success in SCCA TransAm and European Touring car events, a Shelby version even taking a podium at the 1965 Tulip Rally in Holland.

You can see Mustangs racing in international Historic events on a global basis, but it is rare to find a full spec rally Mustang that has a proven endurance off road rally record as this Arrive Drive car has. After two of the most prominent companies in their respective fields, HERO-ERA and Prodrive joined forces to produce a Porsche 911 beating car, the results have hit the target.  

The first historic American car to receive world title winning Prodrive engineering treatment, HERO-ERA 1, originally a rusting 1967 pony car transformed into state-of-the-art desert rally machine, has now finished two consecutive Peking to Paris Motor Challenges.

In 2025 the HERO-ERA Arrive and Drive Mustang was third in class and ninth car home on the road.  They were the first American car to finish and represent part of HERO-ERA’s Enduro Rally Programme.

Following the launch and extensive testing by three times British Rally Champion and 007 James Bond stunt driver Mark Higgins, the original HERO-ERA 1 was given its rally debut on the 2023 Badawi Trial to the Last Oasis in the Middle East finishing 5th Classic overall and 2nd in class. It was a great debut and shakedown for the new machine. That was just the startthough, on the 2026 Badawi Trial to the Last Oasis, endurance rally campaigners Christian and Xavier Sarrau finished first on the road and won the Classic class in HERO-ERA 2. This car was the second Prodrive Mustang to be built and beat all comers in the harsh desert terrain, truly a Porsche 911 beater!

Lead by Chief Engineer Richard Thompson, valuable feedback from Mustang crews has beentranslated by Prodrive engineers into improvements and modifications already built into HERO-ERA 1 and subsequent customer Mustangs. Development through experience is part of Prodrive’s DNA as together with HERO-ERA, they aim to be the endurance hire machine to consistently take top honours.
