JWRC finale WRC RACC Spain 14-17 October 2021
Jon Armstrong (N.I.) and Phil Hall (Nottingham) clawed back to second overall in the Junior World Rally Championship finale in Spain after a brilliant dominant first day unfortunately followed by ‘off stage’ excursions on Leg 2 that ultimately put paid to their brilliant championship charge.
*Jon Armstrong and Phil Hall finish runners up in the championship
*Duo set the pace with big stage wins before two excursions force pair to fight back
Battling with eventual champions Finns Sami Pajari and Marko Salminen, Jon and Phil were rapid from the go finishing the first leg with a 15.9 second advantage.
In a patch of early fog and mist of the second day, Jon missed his braking point ending up with the car beached but they got back on, although now in serious arrears, setting stunning stage times once more. Sadly, Jon and Phil clipped something on the inside tarmac edge later in the day which just caught and broke the left front wheel putting them out for the rest of the day.
Despite no testing and a car that was understeering, it was a great performance with Jon and Phil winning stages by big margins, they beat Sami and Marko by 40 seconds on stage 10! The Dirt Rally Team car achieved six fastest stage times during the rally as Armstrong and Hall clawed their way back on the final day in the now repaired Rally4 Ford Fiesta, to finish the world title year in runner up position.
HERO-ERA congratulate the duo on a great championship year of which both can be proud. We look forward to finding out their plans for 2022.
