Flying Scotsman LITE Returns for 2027

Following its enthusiastic reception, Flying Scotsman LITE returns in 2027, running alongside the traditional format.

With less night time driving and simplified navigation, LITE offers wider accessibility while retaining the spirit of the Flying Scotsman. Selective plotting will be introduced, always while stationary, alongside new test classes where entries permit.

Flying Scotsman

Europe’s foremost ‘Vintage Only Rally’ will be back in 2027 to take crews through the wondrous visual and sensual experiences that only Scotland can deliver.

The Flying Scotsman is unique in the historic motoring world and has become a must enter traditional competition for vintage vehicles and their international crews, as together they recreate a golden bygone era in the spirit of friendly competition.

From incredible driving roads where pictorial vistas unfold, to the ancient traditions that underpin all the tartan glory, there will be an eclectic mix of competition, camaraderie and motoring nostalgia.

Join us for a series of tests and regularities over three and a half great days of historic motoring starting from Gleneagles, the best beacon of all that is Scottish, as the rally then takes crews around the mid, west and north of Scotland for another feast of vintage motoring.

The organising team have found various stupendous options so far, which they know they need to have ready following the triumph of the ‘Scotland Only’ route this year. It was, universally praised by the capacity entry. ‘A tough act to follow’ commented one Flying Scotsman regular who has enjoyed a couple of podium placing in previous years and so should know how they compare!

The team are working on producing the best possible Flying Scotsman Rally within the borders of Scotland, but are not in a position to able to announce the route just yet, ‘it will be a surprise, with some new features to keep our crews entertained’ said a HERO-ERA Competition spokesperson.

Whether it is going north through the Cairngorms or reaching as far as Aberdeen is not clear, it could be totally in the other direction, but what is clear is that it will rank amongst some of the best historic motoring anywhere in Europe set against a backdrop of lochs and mountains and conducted in the best spirit of adventure and camaraderie.
