Following the successes of A Novice Trial previously held near Daventry, for 2027 it will retain the familiar format but we will be moving to a new location on the outskirts of the Cotswolds to explore new areas and roads to learn new skills in Historic Regularity Rallying.
The popular format of A Novice Trial is designed to explain and demonstrate the skills required for classic car rallying in a fun and informative way. The event is aimed at those new to rallying, or as an introduction to the sport for friends and family.
The event begins on the Friday afternoon with registration and vehicle checks, and then the first evening class session with a seminar covering the basics of rallying, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for the practical sessions. As well as an opportunity to meet others over a welcome dinner.
Saturday will alternate practical and theory lessons to help you build on your newfound skills before culminating on Sunday with a rally to put those new skills to the test and show you exactly what to expect on your next adventure with HERO-ERA.
The action concludes on Sunday afternoon with an awards ceremony and a buffet lunch, so you’ll have time to return home at a reasonable hour in readiness for the rigours of a Monday morning.
You will leave not only with all the tools necessary to tackle a HERO-ERA Green or Blue Event, such as the Summer Trial or the HERO Challenge series, but also with a solid platform to build upon for those looking to embark on the longer distance events.

Friday 26th February 2027
With Scrutineering and Documentation during the afternoon, an introduction session and welcome dinner to welcome you to the world of HERO-ERA and Historic Regularity Rallying.
Saturday 27th February 2027
The day will be mixed with Classroom sessions, introducing you to new topics within Regularity Rallying and heading out on to the roads to test your new-found skills. With the experienced HERO-ERA team on hand to answer your questions about the sport throughout the day. In the evening you will be free to explore the many restaurants and bars in Cheltenham as the HQ hotel is just a 5 minute walk away.
Sunday 28th February 2027
A full mornings Rallying awaits you to put your new knowledge and skills to the ultimate test around the Scenic Cotswolds area; featuring a mix of Regularties and Tests, with a mid-morning coffee break to catch your breath and catch up with your fellow competitors.
With an early afternoon finish, a buffet lunch will precede the awards presentation before heading home to prepare yourself for your next adventure with HERO-ERA.

Vehicle Information
- Entry is open to any vehicle of a specification valid before the 1st January 1991
- The cars will be split into classes based on age and cc, or other criteria established by the organisers
